- Product and batch labels at production: GS1 barcodes (EAN-13 plus a batch DataMatrix), internal barcodes for own-shop items, any label printer or A4 sticker sheets
- Scan the batch label at the till and that exact batch is sold — expired batches warned or blocked, batches on hold need a manager, a pack with two codes counted once
- Stock sold before its batch was recorded is settled against the batch when it arrives, so batch quantities don't drift above stock on hand
- Name the batches behind stock set aside for a customer — dispatches to that customer take those batches first, everyone else uses them last, and the batch trace shows which dispatches came from the set-aside stock
